Terry Gross of Fresh Air is the best interviewer in the business. The transcript of my 2015 interview with Terry about my history of #autism and #neurodiversity, #NeuroTribes, is archived here. It was an honor to talk to her. npr.org/transcripts/43…

Looking down on the town on a dark walk around. Just after I stopped filming, a deer crossed the road in front of me and jumped the rail into the downsloping woods, and se both stopped a one stared at one another.

🧵On this anniversary of the pandemic's start, I revisited horrors of early 2020. My hope is fading bc I don't see *any* big changes to protect us. My latest piece on the CDC suggests the next pandemic will be worse. KFF Health News / NBC News nbcnews.com/health/health-…

Flashback to 2020. Remember horrific outbreaks in nursing homes & prisons? A lack of testing -- despite our enormous capacity for it -- meant outbreaks exploded. A lack of strong advice & regulation led to testimonials like this one, from a veterans' home.

It's amazing how fast we've collectively forgotten the (appropriately) terrifying early days of Covid. Tho, from reading John Barry's history of the 1918 Flu epidemic & from my own memories of the 1980s AIDs epidemic, it seems a common thing, to forget quickly the "ab"normalcy.

Read this whole thread, which itself is a history of failure that the US seems determined to even acknowledge, much less use to create a better response to the next pandemic.

Focusing so much on Hope Hicks’ tears, rather than her testimony, in the lede, headline, and front-page paragraphs, I would respectfully submit, was the wrong choice for the The New York Times. That’s a good subject for a sidebar.

I guess it's appropriate that an ad for a "leaving academia" consultant would feature the consultant manifesting the behavior that's driving people away from academia.

He can’t even announce that he’s staying in the race without making a gaffe! It’s not 2020, it’s 2024, and he’s going to throw away the country for his own stupid pathetic ego.

So sorry and sad that Steve Silberman, a great friend to me and so many — millions, really — has left us. Funny as hell, endless empathy, smarts, love, courage, and sweetness. One of a kind. Hugs to all his loved ones, esp @WardQNormal.

I don’t come here often, but feel I must celebrate and spread this well-deserved and long overdue gutting of Malcolm Gladwell. Brilliant, ebullient knife work and wordplay by The.Ink, from Anand Giridharadas. Carry on! nytimes.com/2024/09/29/boo…
