Never defile your Self, by hating yourself. Never believe there is any mistake you've made that is going to rise up against you. Everyone has made mistakes, forget it. Begin to realize who you are, begin to love yourself dearly, lift yourself up and become free. ~ Robert Adams

Mindfulness is useful only if it returns you to what is prior to mind. The sound is not there to improve the person. It interrupts thought and returns attention to the silence beneath it. In that pause, you do not become your true self. You stop leaving it.

Haumai, or ego, often leads us to believe we are correct, but Sikhi encourages us to pause and reflect. True strength emerges when we can release our ego and embrace truth, even if we stand alone. Wanting to be right. This sentiment makes people run around in circles constantly.
