The draft Emissions Reduction Plan is a slap in the face to New Zealanders who deserve a cleaner, fairer future. It allows coal burning for decades, has no plan to reduce ag emissions & misses an opportunity to transform our transport system. But with pressure we can change it.

Nearly every world leader at #COP26 is male. The #patriarchy seems abstract until you realise that the future or humanity rests this week almost exclusively in the hands of men. Gail Bradbrook #ClimateEmergency

"The nuclear-free moment of this generation" and they can't even agree to the requests of a very pro-business green politician.

Remember how the Govt is "pulling every lever" but won't commit to implementing a CGT, a mass state housing programme (MoGW), IRRS4all, rent controls and the redistribution of large landlord holdings???

It may be of interest to observers that New Zealand won "Fossil of the Day" at #COP26 today -- the award for countries that "do the most to achieve the least". The reasoning:

Remember when James Shaw said no desk was better than a bad deal on carbon trading at #COP26? And when he & negotiators said human rights & Indigenous peoples’ rights were a priority? If New Zealand accepts article 6 deal without meaningful rights language, that was blablabla.

Submissions on the Govt's Emissions Reduction Plan closes tonight @ consult.environment.govt.nz/climate/erp-qu…. Here is a compilation of guides from climate justice orgs to help you out: docs.google.com/document/d/1j5… The govt already has the ideas it needs - what is lacking is the political will to act.

100% union worker power has shut down the major Woolworths food distribution centre in Favona. Eessential workers who worked all thru lockdown are demanding better pay + conditions! 2day is the 2nd day of total shutdown, festive music & picket. Power to the workers @FIRST_Union

One of my favourite things I ever learned is that women did not start dying in childbirth in high numbers until the 17th century, when male doctors took over from midwives. Midwives prioritised the life of the mother over the child all through the Medieval period 1/

There is a curious phenomenon that results from the relatively brief window of time a single human lifetime provides: we perceive the current state of the natural world as “normal”. This is known as the Shifting Baseline Syndrome. 🧵
