This is one truly important #dataviz on #covid19UK📍 It takes about 2.5% of the population infected to cause shortage of hospital beds in most of the UK counties. And this assumes that all the beds are given to the #COVID patients. Read the preprint: doi.org/10.31219/osf.i…

The awful situation at Vnukovo Airport is going underreported. Due to the coronavirus and the closure of borders, several hundred citizens of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan now live in the airport. Flights are constantly canceled, and their consulates just say "wait."

How do we gain time to let hosps get more supplies & prepare for high number of pts? How do we lower the speed of spread of COVID in US? How do we lower odds that ICUs will run out of vents, hospitals run out of space? The answer for now is large scale social distancing.7/x

A perfect illustration of two most often #dataviz sins in maps — (1) red-green 😡🤢 color scale and (2) not caring about map projections 🌐

I have a very strong opinion about this paper that went viral over the weekend. I cooled down a bit since coming across it yesterday and will try to refrain from strong wording. Here is my negative 🛑 post-pub peer-review THREAD 1/

Two months since the publication, our critique w/ Health Nerd (osf.io/9yqxw) caused the authors to revise the (remember, thoroughly peer-reviewed) paper and publish a correction THREAD tl;dr: retraction is still the only way how it started: how it's going:

if I had just one shot to share an important idea💡here it is. No joke. Look 👀 RATIOS DEMAND LOG SCALE 👇 the coolest non-trivial example when a log Y-axis is required to represent ratios going from 50 in ~1988 to 25 in ~2001 is as bad as going from 100 in 1970 to 50 in ~1988

I just realized I need a mug that says “this meeting could have been an email” that I can sip from slowly while staring unblinkingly into the camera during zoom meetings.

I wrote a very personal piece for the The Guardian Long Read on the joys of my childhood holidays to Iran. It's about race, migration, and family, and the heartache of growing up between two irreconcilable worlds bit.ly/2XGbhwW

Valentina Chupik, most famous migrant rights defender and herself Uzbek citizen w/ refugee status in Russia, was banned to enter Russia. The irony is she helped thousands of migrants including those with entry ban issues. Hope she will be fine.
