Happy New Year! January is the last month to take part in the University of Manitoba 2020 Prairie Cover Crop Survey! sites.google.com/view/prairieco… Help us tell the story of covercropping in Western Canada 🇨🇦 We also encourage farmers who have never grown a #covercrop to share their perspective.

Today, choose to remember high winds combined with dry, uncovered fields. Remember the soil blowing away and how that makes you feel. Then do something - this year - try cover crops, manage residue at harvest, get and keep cover on those fields so we don’t feel this way again

Next month's online "Soil Fertility Refresher Course" is already half-full, so if you want to participate, contact John Heard asap, as listed below. Best comment from last year's class - "this stuff is a lot easier to learn in middle age, without being hung over in lectures"🤓

On World Soil Day remember only 16, 21 & 8% of land in AB, SK & MB, respectively are suitable for annual crop production. Our soils are essential for food production but are a very limited resource! We must ensure our soils are conserved & well managed for future generations.
