Wave "hi!" to DIII-D’s newest vessel inspection approach – drone visualization! Evan, an U.S. Department of Energy SULI intern, recently completed the first drone flights inside the DIII-D tokamak. This approach should save time – letting us get back to solving fusion research challenges faster!

Plasma-facing materials remain a vital component for fusion commercialization. Mary Alice Cusentino (Sandia National Labs) gave an invited talk on candidate tungsten alloys at the 20th PFMC Conference in Slovenia, providing insights for predicted behavior for future fusion power plants.


This week, DIII-D hosted Fusion Materials Industry Day! Scientists from Avalanche Energy, Tokamak Energy, & Thea Energy brought their best candidate materials for fusion devices to DIII-D for testing. We can’t wait to see how this work informs the fusion devices of the future!
