During Hurricane Helene, EVERYTHING went down except RADIO. The “Voice of the National Weather Service”, NOAA Weather Radio is the foundation of our entire alerting system. Solid, secure, and affordable. NWR receivers should be as common in homes as smoke detectors.

400+ damaging wind reports yesterday (blue dots). Plus numerous tornadoes in Minnesota/Wisconsin (red dots). Have multiple ways to get severe weather warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio, the official voice of the National Weather Service.

#AMS52BC 45 NOAA Weather Radios remain. Make sure there’s one in your WX Center or better yet, at the Assignment Desk. How else will they know to move your segment up in the cast???

Media coverage of the tragic flooding in Texas mentions nothing of NOAA Weather Radio transmitter WWF90, located in Kerrville and delivering immediate, automatic alerts to the entire area. Weather radios should be required in counselors’ cabins at every youth camp in America.

The signal is pretty solid throughout Kerr County, even down into the Guadelupe River basin. WWF90 was placed into service following a previous flood event.

NOAA Weather Radio automatically delivers alerts DIRECT FROM THE SOURCE: America’s National Weather Service. In fact, it is the only direct source of alerts. Cell phones and sirens are secondary & tertiary warning services. NOAA Weather Radio Saves Lives.

Excellent! Takes a lot of research and hours of graphics work to create reports like this. Important that we all are educated about the “hows” and “whys” of the world we live in. Hats off to you, Avery!

LEWP (with Canadian Tornado Warning) crashing through Boundary Waters. No cell phone coverage there, but NOAA Weather Radio gets the message out. Have a weather radio when you camp, canoe, or travel. They save lives!

A widespread severe wind event is possible later today/tonight. The area with the black hash marks could see hurricane-force straight line winds. Prepare now for power outages. Put fresh batteries in your NOAA Weather Radio, and keep your cell phone charged up. Be ready.

“Moderate” Risk of flood-producing heavy rain in the red area today. Note final sentence of discussion: Have multiple ways to get warnings, including the official “Voice of the National Weather Service”: NOAA Weather Radio. Your safety is your responsibility.

Recent articles about the July 4, 2025, Texas Hill Country flooding have inaccurately stated that NOAA Weather Radio has ‘more than 850 transmitters.’ As of Aug 22, 2025, the NWR network has 1,036 transmitters, with 98-99% operational daily and quick repairs for any issues. Let’s

September: National Preparedness Month. The #3 item on your family’s prep list is a NOAA Weather Radio. It’s the least expensive life insurance policy you’ll ever purchase. The Voice of the National Weather Service delivers the official warnings that save lives. One day yours.

It’s National Preparedness Month. In the Carolinas, be prepared for dangerous flooding this week. Have multiple ways to receive warnings, then heed them. A NOAA Weather Radio costs little, but saves lives. Get one before the rain starts falling. Now’s the time!

Wrapped up National Preparedness Month by re-reading my two favorite preparedness books. How do professional emergency managers respond to disasters? And how should YOU respond when you are IN a disaster? Check these out. You’ll be glad you learned!

This Florida message is a good one, and applies to your state, as well. Make sure NOAA Weather Radio is top-tier item in your family and business preparedness plans. These radios are easily affordable, and they save lives!

Over the next three days, Southwest desert areas could see flash flooding. Do you live beside a creek, stream, or a dry arroyo? Plan now. Have multiple ways to get warnings, and evacuate earlier, not later. Floods become unsurviveable REAL fast.

Tomorrow, 10/16, at 10:16am millions of people will practice “Drop, Cover, And Hold On.” Practice your earthquake response so it’s second nature when seconds count. Unlike tornadoes, quakes give little or no warning. Shake Out practice tomorrow can one day save lives.

Today & tonight, areas in and near the yellow could see severe storms, including damaging straight line winds and maybe some tornadoes. Have multiple ways to get warnings, including America’s Official Federal Warning System: NOAA Weather Radio. It works when other things don’t.
