In 2019, city Union Mission provided 273,263 meals to the hungry – on average. That's 730 meal each day to the hungry of our city!

Many of the men in our long-term program are finding employment! There are also several men who will move out of the long-term facility very soon and into their own residences! These are both required step towards “launching” from the program and becoming self-reliant.

Did you know that City Union Mission provides 75% of the emergency shelter beds for the homeless in Kansas City and the surrounding area?

City Union Mission is the only shelter in Kansas City with infirmary beds for those ill or injured.

At City Union Mission, the average cost to feed, clothe, shelter, care & provide training for one person in our emergency shelter is $19 a day. While the average cost to feed, clothe, shelter, care & provide training for one person in our long-term program is $29 a day.

The Mission's doors opened on September 15, 1924, at 545 main, down in the City Market area— which was known as 'Skid Row' at the time. For 96 years we have been caring for KC's poor and homeless community.

The Mission helps to prevent homelessness through community assistance— such as, assisting with utility bills, furniture, school uniforms, clothing, food and holidays.

At our Vanderberg Youth Center, after-school programs for low-income youth are offered, which include tutoring & life skills classes.

Brian, a past client of our long-term program, just called to say "thanks" for having a shelter to stay in when he was in need. He was calling from Michigan and said he remembered the chapel service and he just wanted to call and say thanks.

Each summer more than 650 children from impoverished and homeless families throughout the KC metro area enjoy bright sunny days filled with love, laughter and the opportunity to make new friends at the Mission's Camp CUMCITO residential summer camp located in Warsaw, Mo.
