1/7 Education Committee Oversight Visit to CUE Focuses on Regulatory Reforms The Departmental Committee on Education of the National Assembly, led by its Chairman Hon. Julius Melly Kipbiwott, paid an oversight visit to the Commission for University Education (CUE) headquarters

2/2 The delegation was received by CUE’s management team led by CEO Prof. Mike Kuria (5th right) alongside the institution’s top leadership, where discussions focused on strengthening oversight and enhancing quality assurance in the university subsector.

CUE, Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Mike Kuria, acknowledged the severity of the challenges but defended the regulator's commitment to its mandate, which is to ensure the maintenance of standards, quality, and relevance in university education, training, and research.

7/7 He further noted that Kenyans, and especially our universities, are naturally creative and innovative. Harnessing this potential, he said, is about more than building a national bioeconomy education framework,it is about creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

5/7 1. Sustainability at the heart – The project is about collective responsibility, and universities are ready to take the lead in driving a sustainable future. 2. Aligned to Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET)- It ties directly to the skills-based approach.

4/7 His leadership emphasizes not only academic excellence but also the practical application of science in addressing societal and environmental challenges. In his remarks, Prof. Kuria underscored why the BioKE Project is so critical, highlighting three key points:

3/7 With a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Sussex, UK, and extensive research on nitrogen fixation, biopesticides, and biodiversity, he brings a wealth of expertise to the BioKE Project.
