Treating education and housing stability as disconnected silos is a recipe for disaster. Some schools have figured that out. While housing>shelter, no student should have to do homework under the dome light of a car or a street lamp. hechingerreport.org/a-shelter-in-a… The Hechinger Report

Powerful session on needs of students exp. homelessness & foster care. Struck by Earl Edwards, Ph.D. point that schools never part of problem statement on homelessness, so they aren't considered part of solution. Great insight from Dr. Matt Morton Joseph Bishop, Kenyon Lee Whitman, Erin Simon.

Excited my bill to prevent youth homelessness was just signed into law! By providing the supports #youth & young adults need to find & keep safe, stable housing, we can break the cycle of #homelessness before it starts. #waleg nbcrightnow.com/news/inslee-pa…

It was an incredible honor to be Art Longworth's atty. Art taught me so much about how systems wrong ppl. But more importantly, he & this case reinforced how right it is to give a second chance to people who never got a first chance. crosscut.com/news/2022/04/a… @Crosscut Claudia Rowe

The huge number of young people who receive inpatient or residential behavioral health treatment and then experience homelessness is stunning. Excited that Manatt Health is highlighting strategies that can disrupt this troubling pathway into youth homelessness. Raikes Foundation

#NewOpportunities is a bold effort to prevent, not just mitigate, youth homelessness. Our nation will soon have a prevention plan, guided by those closest to the issue and based on research. It's what young ppl & families have been asking for for decades. youtu.be/rKF2JZjoW1g

Actually preventing young people from experiencing homelessness is often possible but rarely a major piece of our homelessness strategies. Senator Patty Murray is working on legislation that will go a long ways towards fixing this & making sure few young people ever sleep on the streets.

First time funding from Senator Patty Murray will establish a new youth homelessness prevention effort at the federal level. This will reduce homelessness across populations and lead to many more young people living in stable housing and never knowing what homelessness is like.
