Over the years I've gained a real appreciation for humble coworkers. Instead of striving to be the visionary genius, I love a concept artist that aims for 'dependable craftsman'. We're here to solve problems; the answers need not be glamorous.

Hi #under10kgang I am a concept artist and I am trying to start getting my Art out there more. I am hoping twitter is a good place for me to start sharing personal projects and industry work :)

Well, my day's complete! My 5 year old nephew watched the 'enemy design 01' video I posted, and wanted to share his homework results. It was built from legos, and met all of the requirements I laid out in the video šŸ˜‚. So don't let the tools hold you back!

I think today's Concept Art Playbook might be the most important of the bunch. It explores the idea of 'visual synthesis', which is (in my opinion) the heart of the job. Don't miss this one! ctrlpaint.com/videos/03-enem…

One thing you don't hear about in digital art tutorials: unexpected changes to the brief. They're totally out of your control, but still your responsibility to deal with. Episode 04 of the playbook is all about the curve ball! ctrlpaint.com/videos/04-enem…

Painters do 'master studies', but I don't hear about concept artists studying from iconic game objects in the same way. Today's video encourages you to look a bit deeper at iconic game objects. ctrlpaint.com/videos/06-icon…

Bad news! Ctrl+paint has to unexpectedly switch video hosts, so the site will appear pretty broken until I finish migrating the videos to youtube. Vimeo got very expensive on short notice 😐. In the meantime, the youtube channel is available here: youtube.com/channel/UCzZPl…

Hooray! I'm making some tangible progress on fixing Ctrl+Paint. While uploading videos, I remembered this one about 'selection layers' that I like. Enjoy! youtube.com/watch?v=_-QRfB…

And while I'm here, this video about 'Selection Building' in Photoshop is another one I'd like to share. Ok, back to migrating my videos šŸ˜‚ youtube.com/watch?v=OjIgQc…

One hidden reason why games industry has a huge crunch culture is simple. At some point, you're going to throw away a huge chunk of your game, and you have no idea what that will be or how significant it's going to be. 1/thread

as someone who has made dozens of fantasy weapons I can say there is an art to not making every single thing over-the-top. Gotta have breathing room for those epic pieces.

Really nice breakdown of value control by Jon Neimeister. This applies to #art #gameart and definitely #handpainted texturing process. artstation.com/artwork/Aq5rkW
