Happy weekend everyone. If you've listened to Sold a Story and want to dig deeper into the "science of reading," I put together a suggested reading list. Episode 4 is coming Thursday. apmreports.org/story/2022/10/…

Lots of districts are going to be forced to make tough decisions in the next couple years as the realities of declining enrollment and sunsetting stimulus dollars set in. Courageous leaders would do well to study up on what’s worked and not worked 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Thank you and your team for hosting us in Edgewood ISD! This was our biggest group of district leaders yet, and it was so great to see how your years of purposeful innovation are bearing fruit.

Jimmy Carter in 1976--his words are perfect for 2023: "I want to see us once again have a nation that's as good and honest and decent and truthful and competent and compassionate and filled with love as are the American people."

When it comes to innovation in education, Ector County ISD and Scott Muri are always in the conversation. Our #NewFrontiers report spotlights courageous leaders like Dr. Muri who have embraced change and put student outcomes first. issuu.com/dardenreport/d…

I suggest looking at all of the Ector County ISD TIA celebration photos but this one celebrating an incredible PreK teacher really got me. A life-changing amount of money for a teacher who is changing lives.

Psyched to have this piece, “Stonecutter’s Chorus,” out in the world, just in time for baseball season. Huge thanks to Arboreal Lit Mag & special shout out to Chill Subs for helping me find a home for this story.

It’s always so nice to see your work in print, but these journals are positively gorgeous. Great work to the Arboreal Lit Mag team and all the great artists and designers who worked on these issues!

Denver's Office of Storytelling did a video about American Indian Academy of Denver, a charter school that closed its doors for good earlier this month. The video was filmed over the last few weeks of school. denvergov.org/Community/Neig… #edcolo

Just one piece of a complex puzzle, but teacher residencies are impactful and there are plenty of models to learn from— as always Ector County ISD leading the way. Way to go!

In case you missed it, excited to share a brief featuring our recent study on the preparation of teachers via fully-online programs- where coursework is online, and candidates complete just 30 hrs of classroom observation prior to becoming teachers. ttu-ir.tdl.org/handle/2346/96… 1/x

I had the same experience— as a kid I realize now I just learned how to push numbers around on a page; after teaching elementary math I have a fundamentally different (and to me, better) understanding of how numbers work. Kids shouldn’t have to wait.
