DC's jail has enough problems already but the US Attorney's Office is making them worse by failing to fully prosecute deadly assaults. Here a defendant stabbed another inmate on camera & in front of a corrections officer & the USAO reduced the felony charge to a misdemeanor.

Under US Attorney Matthew Graves the USAO is much less likely to use the longstanding tools in DC law to ensure "consistent accountability" for violent crime or gun offenses. DC can't make up for Graves' massive drop in enforcement by passing a few legal tweaks.
