Dr. Carter started his career as a medic in the Korean War. He broke barriers becoming the first African American to graduate from Creighton University School of Pharmacy…but most importantly, he cared about uplifting others. I asked how he wanted to be remembered. This was his response:

Creighton is pleased to offer our Presidential Lecture Series, which will focus on face and features notable, award-winning authors who speak to this time in our nation’s history. Their voices offer us hope for a better tomorrow.

We continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth by honoring Tanya Warren. After her time at Creighton, Warren became the head coach at the University of Northern Iowa, making her the first black female head coach in Missouri Valley Conference history.

To continue #BlackHistoryMonth we celebrate Josh Dotzler and his work through Abide Omaha. Abide is a nonprofit mission focused on revitalizing the inner city of Omaha. He has used his voice on a national and a local level to ignite change.

Barbara Edwards was the first African American graduate of Creighton Nursing, specifically at the St. Joseph’s hospital unit program. The following year, Lois Turner (middle) became the first African American to teach in the St. Joseph’s program. #BlackHistoryMonth
