Much as I loved researchED US (and I REALLY, REALLY did!), if we’re not building systems to embed these ideas in 4 million teachers’ lives, well,… #rEDNYC

🧵What if we stopped displaying and talking about universal screening data in RTI/MTSS systems as triangles/pyramids? Would it make more visual sense to use bar graphs or something else? Would it eliminate the distracting discourse of the “upside down” triangle or the “inverted”

And my patients still have recess taken away for academic or behavioral issues despite the AAP recommendation to never penalize recess. Kids need unstructured play.

"We need to balance effect size with cost. "e.g., having students plan what they write...has a smallish effect size of .32, but it doesn't require much effort and may offer add'l benefits, like giving us opportunity to set writing goals with our students (•70). "Well-worth it!

.researchED US #rEDNYC attendees, what was ONE research NEED that you heard Saturday? That is, for what one specific research question did you hear "we badly need more research to tell us _________"? (Seems critical as the US rebuilds/reinstates research funding channels.)

It’s April&if you’re feeling the pressure to have your k students write multiple sentences, don’t. It is better to enter 1st writing independent strong single sentences. For your advanced writers? Sentence expansions. How? Because, but, so; who, what, where; accordion sentences.

Student just tried to use the science of learning to argue getting their homework before the weekend, citing their need to forget what they learned to strengthen retrieval. Turns out there’s a music festival this weekend. Fair play, miss, but no 😂😂

Our buddy Stave Dackin needs to get this personalized learning crap out of Ohio's schools as fast as he possibly can. Ohio should lead the nation in TRUE personalized learning, not the voodoo junk pushed by KnowledgeWorks . Stop the madness, now, Steve.

I let my person-seeking be a bit more serendipitous than this. But just a bit!😀 PS: researchED US, Much bigger font for people's names, on name tags that pin chest-high--rather than hanging naval-level while twisting backwards. Please! 🙏

This is why we progress monitor. Behind every data point is a student working hard. This student started below benchmark—but with structured literacy & intervention, look at this growth! Progress monitoring lets us adjust, support, and celebrate.

I was ambivalent about shutting down U.S. Department of Education. Until these posts. We have become so accustomed to the abysmal pace/quality of data-via-government, that no one even considers that: Yes, this data would be gathered quickly, in an entirely different way by other professions/sectors.

Sorry, Rick, but I call 🐂💩on this one. It’s just a movie. ➡️Nature abhors a vacuum, and the Ed schools had one.Serious people have either abandoned them, or—as in my case—are barred from participating. …By people who sit on boards like,…the boards you yourself sit on.
