Cutting PIP & disability benefits isn’t just cruel, it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what they’re for. They aren’t means-tested or linked to employment; they exist to cover the extra daily costs of disability. Cutting them would be an outright attack on disabled people.

“Every time you see a headline on “the cost of the benefits bill”, what you are really reading is “the cost of disabled people”.  My col. on Labour’s reported benefit cuts and the toxic narrative of the “moral” virtue of work. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Labour is deliberately using the 200,000 disabled people who said they want to work if possible—twisting it to claim benefits are holding them back and that they’re actually capable of working. There is no evidence of either of these claims being true in the report. Storytelling.

With all the discussion focused on disability benefits, there is nothing being said about Carer’s Allowance: if a person loses PIP, their carers will lose their Carer’s Allowance. This needs to be mentioned! It will create destitution not seen in decades.

When this government says disabled people ought to work, we ask: Where are the jobs? The level-access commuter trains? The accessible homes? The carers to dress me at 6am? (Right, Brexit made them leave.) The reduction in wait times for Access to Work, Wheelchair Services?

“There’s a longstanding practice in UK politics to force disabled people to fight for basic rights – a kind of gladiatorial scrap in which the Colosseum is replaced by the set of Good Morning Britain.” Today’s col. on the fallout of more ‘welfare reform.’ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

MPs vote against lifting restrictions on bus travel before 9.30. "This decision is very hard to stomach and comes at a time when disabled people feel under attack by various unsympathetic government policies and ‘U Turns" Read the full story here: disabilityrightsuk.org/news/mps-vote-…

People need educating on dynamic disabilities. Sometimes I can walk & swim ect for a time (despite the pain) some days I can't even sit up in bed by myself 🤷‍♀️ It's not complicated. Dynamic disabilities exist. Ambulatory wheelchairs exist. Educate yourselves.

The justification for charging tuition fees, with reverse triple lock interest, and resulting 9% extra income tax, is the graduate premium. This, you are told, is the extra lifetime earnings from which you will benefit as a degree holder. And we believe that to be between
