#OnThisDay 1921 East Clare IRA, led by Michael Brennan ambush a patrol of Black and Tans at Cratloe. Two RIC officers were killed & many others wounded. The driver was hit but managed to get the Crossley out of the ambush. One IRA Vol was hit by friendly fire. #Ireland #History

101years ago today , the East Clare IRA ambushed a patrol of Black and Tans travelling between Ennis & Limerick at Cratloe Moyle. Two RIC officers Sgt Stephen Carty and Sgt Jeremiah Curtin were killed in the attack . The following shows OC Ml. Brennan’s account of the ambush.

The Little Church Cratloe Parish, located in Ballyliddan West was erected in 1858 under Fr John Bourke PP. In April 1877, riots broke out in Limerick over a chalice that was stolen by the 90th Regiment from the Church; the chalice was later recovered. limerickdioceseheritage.org/Cratloe/chSixm…
