I love everything about the updates to the #Apple Developer Documentation focusing on designing and writing more inclusively #WWDC21 - this is not just about gender, race and accessibility but also about economic status and privilege

“What’s new in Foundation” is such a plain name for a jaw dropping set of improvements: developer.apple.com/wwdc21/10109 If you’ve ever touched Localizable.stringsdict files, you’ve experienced true eldritch horror. Automatic grammar agreement for strings seems too good to be true.

If you missed it yesterday, I covered a few mainstream features announced by Apple on Monday that double as de-facto accessibility features. Coupled w/ the discrete ones unveiled a few weeks ago, this year’s Apple accessibility story is awfully rich. forbes.com/sites/stevenaq…

“The process of inclusive design” is such a great talk. 👉 Inclusion shouldn't be an afterthought, it has to be planned and part of the process. 👉 Culture add, not culture fit. What perspectives are you missing? 👉 Measure inclusion as a key metric. developer.apple.com/videos/play/ww…

This is good stuff from an accessible design POV. Based on what I’ve glanced from screenshots, all of Apple’s OSes this year have nicely-defined controls—buttons that look like buttons are important for visual/cognitive accessibility.

Please check out these talks! Using SF Symbols is great for increasing legibility and accessibility because they can scale with Dynamic Type, automatically use a bolder weight with the Bold Text setting, and can provide consistency between apps if we use them similarly. #WWDC21

When an app has a "steep learning curve," this can be something to flag as an #accessibility concern. Onboarding/education are often an aspect of accessibility, particular cognitive accessibility. It's not just about "can" someone use your app, but also how do they learn to?

If you haven’t checked out out Per-App #Accessibility settings, you should! Configure Large Text, Smart Invert and more at a Per-App level! You can also update text size in Control Center system-wide or just for the app you’re in! #iOS15

Technology is at its best when it’s built for everyone. Thank you FCC for recognizing the work of teams across Apple in collaboration with the disability community to create People Detection, Sound Recognition, VoiceOver Recognition, and sign language prominence in FaceTime.

An inclusive product puts people first by prioritizing ways everyone can have access and joy. For us, inclusiveness is about making people feel welcome and considered. I’m so proud to be a part of this design team and to watch our impact continue to grow. wallpaper.com/design/apple-p…

excited to share my very first wwdc session!! i go through every corner of our design system — the tiny rules, the big shifts, and how liquid glass is reshaping not just the visuals, but the very foundations and heuristics that hold it all together. developer.apple.com/videos/play/ww…
