🔴 How Did the Government Get It So Recklessly Wrong on COVID-19, Children and Schools? Evidence showing the risk of teachers catching the Coronavirus in schools and then passing it on in the community has been ignored at every turn, says Adam Hamdy 🔽 bylinetimes.com/2021/01/06/how…

Widespread, regular testing remains critical to school reopening, and combined with the right steps and federal support the nation’s more than 98,000 public schools could be open soon.  vox.com/22254942/covid…

I agree- mixed messaging is harmful, and it's important that the The BMJ stops platforming misinformation on schools & transmission - based on flawed interpretation of flawed studies. Many of us asked them to include a more diverse panel of epidemiologists to discuss.

Variants are coming. Tho I'm often skeptical about models, the burden of proof is on governments to demonstrate that explosive spread of B.1.1.7 will NOT happen – as it did in UK, Israel, Portugal, Israel and elsewhere. It's controllable, but requires closures, masks, isolation.

Nothing will change in our schools: 13.3% and 355 Weekly Cases Per 100,000 Residents, kids are not masking, full classrooms, barely 3 feet apart, 3-5 days contact tracing, zero cohorting. We have never strictly implemented all mitigation strategies!

Definitely. Asking our teachers to open schools without the vaccine is like asking soldiers to walk into a battlefield without body armor. America can and must do better for these front-line heroes of the pandemic. Give em a raise too.

4) However, amid the positive news there were still increases in the number of #COVID19 cases and outbreaks in schools, the workplace and in prisons. More evidence is emerging that the B117 variant may be driving the transmission in schools. montrealgazette.com/news/local-new…

This is in Indiana: schools will mask AFTER infections rise. It's like wearing a condom after your partner is pregnant🙃 Mt. Vernon Community Schools will move to a tiered system for individual schools. When a school reaches the orange tier, masks will be required.

An excellent thread. Delta is different. Delta is different with kids. Classrooms with 30 kids and no social distancing are different than 2020 classrooms with 10. NYC schools need a remote option this fall.

Southern Indiana survived last year...this year is a TOTALLY different story and no one seems to be concerned with kids who can not be vaccinated in North Spencer School Corporation-no remote option, no masks, no distancing, no communication, no clue, no leadership.

16+ cases with confirmed spread at Lincoln Trail Elementary (Spencer County, IN) in 8 days of school is not a number parents should be comfortable with. 75+ kids are quarantined. The superintendent &school board is doing NOTHING-parents are totally in the dark! WHO CAN HELP!

“Parents aren’t just anxious about sending their children back to school as the delta..rages. They’re so worried about their kids’ health & the safety of their communities that many parents-especially Black&Hispanic parents-now say they’d rather keep them home learning remotely.
