#SarcophagusSaturday - The Viking-Age Govan Sarcophagus is thought to depict a royal saint killed by Vikings in the 870s. The coffin has sides covered with panels depicting animals & a horseman alongside ribbon motifs. tinyurl.com/ydednr7f
#TombTuesday - Din Lligwy Burial Chamber (Moelfre on Anglesey) - a circle of 8 upright stones of differing shapes, all supporting a massive capstone, 5.9m by 5.2m and 1.1m thick. The massive capstone weighs ca. 25 tons, the chamber's height ca. 2 m.

#MapMonday - Planisphere made by Rumold Mercator in 1587 (the youngest son of cartographer Gerardus Mercator). He published a supplement of 34 maps to his father's 'Tabulae Geographicae' map book. It contains 29 maps. It is one of them. tinyurl.com/382my327
#MosaicMonday - Princess Andromeda with Perseus, who is holding the head of Medusa. The mosaic is from the 'House of Poseidon' in Zeugma, Turkey, 2nd–3rd century AD.
#SarcophagusSaturday - The sarcophagus of Tabnit, the Phoenician King of Sidon, was unearthed in 1847. Tabnit ruled between 549–539 BC. His body was preserved thanks to a specific liquid.

#TombTuesday - Skegriedösen (Skegrie Dolmen) in Skegrie, Trelleborg, Sweden, one of the graves, only for funerals & used around 3500–3300 BC & surrounded by a rectangular circle of 17 stones (some carved with bowl pits for an offering (a coin or butter).

Running to the north of the main alignments at Kerzerho in Erdeven (Morbihan) and set at 90 degrees to them are over 20 much taller menhirs (several over 5m tall). The one on the left of this 1902 card by Neurdein is known as La Polichinelle. #StandingStoneSunday .
The menhir of Kerangosker in Pont-Aven (Finistère) is also known as Pierre le Coq and le Doigt de Dieu. It stands almost 6m tall conveniently on the edge of the rue du Hénan. Card by Parisian publisher Neurdein Frères c. 1909. #StandingStoneSunday .
