Quite a dangerous statement from Super Mario (the consolidation part of course). And where did he get his per capita investment data from? Factually untrue

Agreed, super hard to see how this hangs together, with the authors of the 'competitiveness' report making a bid for scale that will play straight into the hands of the very giants they hope to beat.

Caution Enrico Letta
It is not useful to RT the trade rep of Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc.
Big Tech will view a new EU competitiveness agenda as a license for more undue consolidation, foreclosure of nascent competitors, and rent extraction.
Please tell them that it is not.

So much in this - running the midwife gauntlet for pain relief, the NCT pushing people to risky, agonising births - chimes for me. I got an epidural after 15 hours of trying. Never so glad to see anyone in my life as that anaesthetist. I'm OK. But UK birth culture is messed up.

This week's cover story for the The New Statesman is probably the most difficult thing I've ever had to write, and certainly the most personal.

2024 is no ordinary year. Europe is at a turning point. When the economy fails people, the far right swoops in.

This goes way beyond tech.

We @foxglovelegal are proud to stand with Open Markets Institute + friends to urge Europe's enforcers to tackle concentrated corporate power head on.

🍾 I’ve got a new paper out, y’all! 🍾

For two years, Daniel Hanley and I have worked to interpret the antitrust law that restricts corporate mergers—the Anti-Merger Act of 1950—like a normal statute. Last month, we finally got the job done 🎊

A 🧵 about what we found👌🏽

Just got my copy of Madhumita Murgia’s Code Dependent! Excited to dive in. When we spoke for this it was clear she’d wander well beyond the usual tech-bro tale. Put it on your list ✅

Dispirited to say I wrote up this problem over a decade ago, when the buzzword was 'big data' and the US were the ones automating their 'kill chain'.

The scale now is worse; the ethical and political fundamentals are essentially unchanged.

Earlier this year I went to Europe to study the EU regulatory authorities, once seen as well ahead of the U.S. I found a stifling bureaucracy, distant from the public it serves, lacking in strategic vision and follow-through on fighting corporate power.
