On the last day of winter in South America, temperatures could peak as high as 45Β°C (113Β°F) in Brazil. Brazil could record its highest temperature in history during this winter heatwave. "Heat will be so extreme that it will be dangerous and pose a risk to health and life,"

Where do plovers go in the fall & winter? Many go to quiet beautiful beaches like this one in the Joulter Cays, Bahamas. Here’s 15 & 1 resident Wilson’s Plover - who is obviously the welcoming committee. It’s important that we protect Piping Plovers throughout their entire range!

In case we needed another reminder of why glue traps are cruel and dangerous, along comes this young female kestrel. She’s partly covered in glue with many of her key flight feathers missing or damaged. πŸ“·: Emily Einhorn

An absolute tragedy in Chicago today, with more to come. We are heartbroken and outraged that this massacre continues while building owners do nothing in the face of clear data and ample solutions. We send our sorrow and gratitude to all the collision monitors and advocates.

1000+ birds alone died in ONE morning at McCormick Place in Chicago. Here’s just the ones who were found. Please tweet this building, contact them & share w/ everyone. They can and must fix this by retrofitting their building. Photo: Daryl Coldren mccormickplace.com/about/contact-…

This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. (Bears need fat to survive winter hibernation, & 151 Walker is clearly set up well here.) Vote for these fine specimens at fatbearweek.org by 5PM AKDT. NPS Photo/K. Moore

The Chicago bird killer is McCormick Lakeside Center. It's not tall, or lit up …but it has 1/3 mile highly reflective glass facing Lake Michigan. Birds coming off the lake head for the trees in front, see those trees and sky reflected, and continue thinking they can fly through.

Barbed wire can be a huge threat to wildlife – especially birds of prey! This Eastern Screech Owl was our most recent barbed wire victim. Feathers & the patagium (the skin between the wrist & shoulder that allows the wings to extend) are easily caught up in this wire.

Two years ago, Larry Hogan vetoed expanded access to abortion. That's his record. Now, running for Senate, he's flippped. Supports codifying Roe. But. Read carefully. Said he supports a "a bipartisan compromise" Is such a thing even possible?
