Code and poetry give similar feeling. Reading beautiful poetry where it's meaning aligned with it's structure is a physical pleasure. Same for the code, good code shines even in decompile.

Current project is based on games, ideas and design patterns I love the most. In upcoming posts I'll go through them and the reasons why.

My top favorite games right now are: 4X #Stellaris, Tynan Sylvester's #Rimworld and I just love roguelikes! Let's merge all this love in one project.

Let's start with the first reference the #Stellaris. How possibly 4X strategy could be a ref for a roguelike? I was always fascinated by the idea of a single individual at the grand scene of universe. That's what we take from this universe.

I said #Rimworld as a reference, but not as a game itself, but the game design behind it. Tynan Silvester is a brilliant and hardworking designer who mastered our craft. Blood, sweat and tears!

So. We have the theme, game design reference and genre. How do we make the game? Through playable milestones! Every single milestone could be complete as "a game". Even if it just start in one room go to another and win the game with gradual expansion every milestone.

First milestone was simple: 1. Player spawns in one room. 2. Moves to another room. 3. Finds object and clicks on it. 4. WIN! It required some homework to be done, but hey it's the simplest #roguelike game you can play, but more important to build on this foundation. #unity3d

It's important to abandon features if you no longer need them. In our @roguelike project initial pivot had extensive survival focus. So body parts system was added. However, project was re-pivoted. So bodyparts should go. Don't keep the feature simply because it already there.

Milestone #2 was simple - monsters were added into the scope. So, now game plays this way: Spawn at the room, fight few monsters on your way, reach the console and win. Looks like super simple #roguelike already!
