Excited to be sharing my experience at #COP27 through CSU_Ecology !

Good news to end your week: The Fender’s blue butterfly (found only in the Willamette Valley) was reclassified from Endangered to Threatened this week. Thought to be extinct in 1937, it was rediscovered in 1989 and now inhabits twice the acreage it did when it was listed in 2000.

It’s #WorldWetlandsDay! When I was a kid, murky water & pond weeds made me nervous (what’s hiding in there?). Today, I’ll happily wade barefoot into #beaver ponds - it doesn’t scare me anymore. Whether you’re just looking or diving right in, wetlands are magical places to be!

I am so happy and proud to have been a part of this historic effort! California is now one of the nation’s leaders in bringing scientists, governments, Tribes, non-profits, and community members to explicitly partner with #beavers for climate change and wildfire risk reduction.

The 'dam' builders are back in action! California released beavers into the wild for the first time in 75 years in coordination with local tribes and California Department of Fish and Wildlife. We're working to restore the North American beaver population and return these creatures to their homelands.
