Having standards and reference cards for your junior officers, NCOs, and soldiers is powerful. It allows you to to take guesswork out of priorities of work or discrepancies in tribal wisdom. It frees leaders’ mental bandwidth to focus on the tactical situation.

If you can’t articulate what you’re inspecting during PCCs and PCIs, or who is carrying what equipment, don’t be surprised when you don’t have the equipment when you need it.
