Inspired by Irma E.L. Sephas, the first Black undergraduate student admitted to UNT in 1956, Coalition1956 was created to combat the same racism that Irma faced. We are a collective of students that are dedicated to making UNT an anti-racist institution.

Students are tired of meetings, townhalls, and empty promises. We want PUBLIC concrete plans and strategies on how you intend on making UNT an anti-racist institution. You have 2 hours and 21 minutes to make a statement. #Coalition1956

Following the #NotMyUNT movement in November 2019, student leaders created a strategic plan in collaboration with administrators to combat racism on our campus. No plans have been implemented since then. No public plan=No private meeting Harrison Keller, Ph.D.

On Wednesday we gave Harrison Keller, Ph.D. 48 hours to produce a plan to make the University of North Texas an anti-racist institution. Not to our surprise, President Smatresk has shown apathy and disregard for Black students and has given us no tangible plan. Enough is Enough. #NotMyUNT
