The Deer Park girls basketball team falls 38-33 to Port Arthur Memorial in an opening assignment of the Lee HS Gander Tipoff Classic Thursday. Jernye McZeal nets 19 second-half points to spark the win. DP now meets rival La Porte on Friday. Bulldogs fell to Episcopal 47-37.

Richland High School rallies from a 34-9 halftime deficit to shock Barbers Hill 48-47 in OT in a 5A-Div. 1 playoff game at Hutto’s Memorial Stadium Friday night. Both teams scored in the OT. The Eagles tried for 2 and failed. Freshman Beck Spivey’s PAT won it for Royals.

Lee College, the No. 10 Div. I JUCO basketball team in the nation, barely escapes a major upset Wed. night as Lee nips Paris JC 64-58 at Lee College. The Dragons almost had a happy 5-hour drive back to Paris, forcing a 56-56 tie, before Lee hit some big buckets in the paint.

The Crosby girls basketball team is celebrating its first bi-district crown in years, following a 54-42 victory over Galveston Ball at Clear Brook HS Tuesday night. Lamaya Clark led the Cougars with 20 points. All of Ball’s points but 2 were scored by freshmen or sophomores.

In an unbelievable 4 overtimes, Barbers Hill tops Fulshear 68-60 to win the Area championship at Pasadena Memorial HS Friday night. Fulshear’s Kinzie Searcy sent it into OT with a buzzer beater, tying game at 46. BH’s Aniyah Robinson forced the 4th OT with a last-second score.

Nationally-ranked Lee College avenges its worst defeat of the season by defeating Angelina JC 82-72 in overtime at Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin Sat. night. Angelina forces OT with buzzer beater, but Lee outscores Angelina 15-5 in the OT. Roadrunners won first meeting by 17 pts.

Barbers Hill sweeps state playoff doubleheader at Sam Rayburn HS Tuesday night. Girls defeat Manvel 32-28 to win their third playoff game. Guys open playoffs with 53-48 bi-district win in double OT over Manvel. Manvel missed 2 FTs with 1 second left that would have won game.

The Gary Herrington Battle by the Bay baseball tourney is minutes away from Pearland and Flower Mound, last spring’s Class 6A state title opponents, meeting again, this time at Baytown Sterling. Oilers have already defeated Ridge Point 4-1. 30-team event continues thru Sat.
