A1: know your "why" and have a great story to tell. People buy on emotion more than anything #startupchats

A2: my advice is use normal clear language. Getting to flowery and using too much jargon can throw people off. Use clear and simple language that people can relate to and understand. #startupchats

A3: you don't necessarily need sales before pitching especially if you are in the idea stages but you do need numbers, stats, projections, costs. These will all be looked at even if you have no sales yet #startupchats

A4: you definitely need to tailor your pitch so it speaks to the investor or audience you are pitching to which is why it is vital that you not only have knowledge of your product/service but your audience as well. Know as much about them as you do your product #startupchats

A6: A slide deck will depend on what type of pitch you are giving and how much time you have. It can be good to bring the investor along in the journey of your story and pitch. #startupchats

A7: that's a tricky one. It depends on what you need, how much and how fast you want to scale and what your goal is. How much does your equity fit into your exit plan for the business. #startupchats

A8: not knowing your product or audience well enough and who are your competitors. Know your product/service like it's part of you, know everything about your audience and their needs and know how you can be better than the rest out there #startupchats

A9: Co-founders should have different areas of the pitch to work on that is more in their wheelhouse. then bring the two together and make it flow. There should be trust in each other's abilities and strengths. Make sure you both believe in the "why".#startupchats

A10: determining an amount is knowing what you want, looking at your numbers, costs, debts, revenue etc and how big you want to grow in what amount of time. You may not hit the right number but you gain experience for the next pitch #startupchats

A11: believe in yourself, your product, be yourself and have fun. When you show excitement and joy it is contagious. #startupchats
