The milky sky we've seen across the Channel Islands today is from wildfire smoke in the atmosphere, which has come all the way from Canada, over 4000 miles away! As a result the temperature and UV index have been subdued today, only reaching 17.2°C and 5 respectively in Jersey!

Things are expected to heat up next week as the wind aloft turns more SE'ly on Wednesday and again on Friday. This brings some very warm air over the Channel Islands, shown by the purple colours below, with temperatures expected to be in the mid to high 20's at times.

Did it feel hot and sticky last night trying to sleep? Well Jersey has just had a 'tropical night' where the the air temperature doesn't drop below 20°C overnight. The lowest temperature at Maison St. Louis Observatory was in fact only 22.1°C!

With the temperature at Maison St. Louis having reached 28°C on Thursday, 31.5°C on Friday and already over 28°C today, we are officially in a heatwave. No chance of it lasting any longer though as westerly winds bring in much cooler weather from Sunday onwards.

Fine weather enticed many to the #JerseyCI beaches this weekend. Yesterday was for those who prefer a hot continental airflow – max 32°C. Today for lovers of a cooler W’ly airflow – 23°C. Some #Cirrus and #Altocumulus in evidence today

Continuing cooler in #JerseyCI today - max ~20°C. When the #Stratocumulus cloud moved away late morning, it gave us a fine view of this high #Cirrus cloud hastening past at 55 knots (60+mph). Click left image for panorama
