He may be reluctant to take credit but talent alone doesn’t win championships. John Parker helped this talented group reach their potential in 2019: hannapub.com/ouachitacitize…

No Bad Exercises #5 Leg Press Today the equipment manufacturers will be upset. We haven’t had a leg press since the early 90’s. My standard joke here is “ if you’re on your back pushing up with your feet you’re… instagram.com/p/BykbyRnF07h/…

“Strong Enough?” Force is HUGE, but after a while/certain level, returns can diminish 🏋🏻‍♂️If not, power lifters would be the best sprinters & most powerful ballistic movers Strength is big, but we need to know the force-velo curve & what each athlete needs Assess ➡️ program

Some High School S/C programs do great work. The majority don’t (most don’t have a real program, coaches just do whatever they did back in the day). I will never comprehend the obsession at the high school level with testing maxes. 99% of high school aged lifters are still learni

Strength is an important foundation for several athletic qualities, but you really only need to train it enough to get to the point that you can prioritize those other qualities. You won’t use a 600lb squat or 405lb bench much in daily life or any sport other than powerlifting.

The "sport specific" weight room training arguement gets tiresome. HS kids need strength/power. There is no "football workout" "basketball workout" or "baseball/softball workout" etc. S&C should build stronger, more resilient athletes. Coaches make them better at their sport

This came down to 2 teams. Union had a VERY impressive 35-14 win over Sterlington on the road but we are going with the Mighty Mustangs of River Oaks. River Oaks had their first ever LHSAA win, 14-0 shutout over a larger school D’Arbonne Woods. Congrats River Oaks Mustangs Athletics River Oaks School

In other words, if you squat 600lbs but don’t run as fast as you want to run, squatting 610 probably won’t make you any faster - but it will interfere with the recovery capacity it takes to make the most of your sprint work.

Looking to do 1 podcast per week in season. Coaches willing to spend 45 min or so talking 3-3 and 3 high. Topics will vary each week. Let me know if you’re interested. Want to hit a bunch before August 1st as well. Check out episodes on Apple podcast, Spotify, and others

Female athletes need quality strength training as early as possible. They are 4-8x more likely to tear their ACL. HS girls should be strength (& plyos + agility) training consistently to reduce their risk!
