I am so glad I got to be part of this incredible town hall. It's exciting to see all the labor solidarity building across sectors nationwide.

What is amalgamation? Amalgamation means that the two UC academic worker Locals (2865 and UAW Local 5810) would come together to form one local union. Members from both 2865 and 5810 will vote on wether or not to amalgamate from October 10th-20th. 🧵(1/6)

This vote is a chance for us to become a single union of 48,000 workers and achieve what we set out to accomplish in 2005 when @uaw2865 began helping post docs organize. Get the facts, then get out there and vote in the Amalgamation Referendum Oct. 10-20th!

the amalgamation of our two awesome unions is a super exciting opportunity for building unity and strength. striking with postdocs and ARs and organizing together since January has made it clear that we're stronger together!

I'm voting YES on Amalgamation because I believe in a wall-to-wall organizing vision at the UC. Every academic worker deserves to be in a robust, powerful, and democratic union where we work together, across job titles and the boss's divisions, to improve our working conditions.

We have been waiting a very long time to have the privilege to amalgamate our two locals, UAW 2865 and UAW 5810. Much of the power from our strike came from our ability to coordinate efforts and support one another across locals. On October 10th, we get to make it official.

It's been a long road to amalgamation, but we made it. We have the opportunity to grow out power in leaps and bounds on Oct. 10th. 48,000 academic workers strong! Let's organize wall to wall!🐢 medium.com/@neal.sweeney/…

Having one big union will only increase our power, enlarge our strike fund, and increase solidarity across the entire UC. UAW 2865 and 5810 pulled off the strike together, and our amalgamated local will kill it next time too. All aboard to the amalgamation station!

Starting at 6am @uaw2865 and UAW Local 5810 workers get to democratically decide whether to amalgamate our locals, formalizing the ties of collaboration and solidarity that allowed us to pull off the largest strike of academic workers we've seen /1

I was interviewed for this segment on labor unions for NPR. I am so proud to be mentioned as part of @uaw2865 alongside other UAW locals. Solidarity forever! ✊🏼

Yes exactly! Strike for six weeks until you’ve extracted what you can, settle an agreement and send it to the members informing everyone of its merits, and settle before the other units to allow for effective patterning! Congrats to the workers at Ford!
