We need to be clear that though Dorothy Arzner was the only woman director working in the Golden Age Hollywood studio system, directors like Esther Eng, Eloyce Gist, Dorothy Davenport were also working in the US in the 30s & racism is very much a factor in Eng & Gist's erasure.

A new report by European Audiovisual Observatory reveals that women are still underrepresented in European film productions and often working for male-driven teams, and women accounted for 25% of all directors of European feature films active between 2017 and 2021. cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/…
