Try doing this if you’re disabled & bed bound. Accepting that you can no longer work is one of the hardest parts of losing your health. You can’t “try harder” when you can’t get out of bed. Guess what often causes folks to lose everything? Sudden health challenges

Why does every conversation about adjustments for disabled people turn into abled people obsessing about things being 'milked'. Why are disabled people always accused of 'milking it' ? What is there to milk?

Women are dying because they can’t access pregnancy related care due to abortion bans. They’re being arrested for miscarriages. They’re being left to bleed out in parking lots. Reproductive healthcare IS healthcare. Want to be pro life? Support autonomy & choice.

'we need to prepare kids for the real world' Well yeah, but in the real world I can go to the toilet when I want, wear what I want, eat and drink when I want and use ear plugs if I feel like it 🤷‍♀️

I cannot believe we are in the crazy situation where patients can't see a GP because there aren't enough doctors... But there are UNEMPLOYED GPs sitting at home because GP surgeries aren't given enough funding to hire them! Somebody make it make sense!!!

"We shouldn't let autistic children wear ear defenders in school because we need to prepare them for the real world." You mean the real world where I, an autistic adult, wear noise cancelling headphones every day, including in the office at my job?

ratchet_fronting (@rfronting) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Erin Ekins (she/her) I've always hated that mindset. "Look, the real world sucks, and I'd rather just have you suffer along with everyone else than lift a finger to make it a better place." Such banal cruelty.

“If it’s that bad, you would have help!” Help doesn’t magically arrive when you become disabled. You’re not assigned a caregiver or given more money based on severity. Many need more help than they’re getting. If you’re struggling tonight, know you’re not alone.

Erin Ekins (she/her) I’m tired of the entire “you need to talk to your child at 16 and explain why they can’t keep x thing when they’re an adult” like why can’t we have our ear defenders, stim fidgets, comfort clothing, because it makes other adult people uncomfortable? Why should that be my problem.

It's important to note #Motability doesn't give us #disabled extra money or free cars, nor is it available to all disabled. It's only supplied to those with higher rate #PIP, & we sacrifice that monthly to lease, not buy, a car. No extra money, no free car. Facts matter.

I don’t think it’s controversial to say that anyone who works 40 hours a week should have enough money to buy a house, go on a holiday each year, afford Christmas presents and be able to turn the heating on.

Disabled people deserve healthcare. Disabled people deserve housing. Disabled people deserve food. Disabled people deserve support. Our ability to work and produce should not determine our value. Disability is not a moral failing. Most people will experience it someday.

Adam Fare 🖤🤍💜 (@adamfare1996) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It shouldn’t matter whether or not someone has worked, or “contributed to the system” If they can’t work, are disabled, etc… They deserve support. This shouldn’t be a debate or even remotely controversial

Erin Ekins (she/her) (@queerlyautistic) 's Twitter Profile Photo

And that last bit is not an accident. The whipping up of hatred against disabled people is not only calculated to manufacture consent for benefit cuts, but also to make disabled people feel so scared and ashamed that they won't seek the support they're entitled to.

I’m tired of people acting like positivity can fix a chronic illness. Sometimes positivity runs out. That doesn’t make you weak. You’re allowed to have days where nothing feels okay. There’s nothing “negative” about being honest about how hard all of this is.

Among women giving birth vaginally, up to 85% of first time mothers sustain perineal tears that require suturing. Perineal injuries have been neglected and deprioritised, at the expense of women’s health and wellbeing bmj.com/content/391/bm…
