When I read this in Proverbs 14:4, I hear "take care of your tools". Oxen were the tool of a harvest. "Back then" you had to have a good harvest to survive and be successful. I'm a programmer, I have tools for that (laptop, etc). Not only get "oxen", but take good care of them.
