On every Saturday open day in John's Garden, we gather a selection of seasonal flowers and float them in a bowl or two. This was originally to display blooms such as hellebores, which bowed their heads from the winter elements. It has now become a feature throughout the year.

Looking into the end of the Autumn/Winter Bed. Acers, dogwoods and spindles are shown off to best effect when backed by dark, clipped yews and hollies. Nerines add a sprinkle of sugar pink which probably shouldn't work amongst all the drama but I think they do. John's Garden

Cenchrus 'Dark Desire', formerly pennisetum, backed by Symphyotrichum cordatum 'Chieftain' (blue wood aster). Misty mornings with low, early morning sun, creating enchanting scenes beside the canal in John's Garden at Ashwood John's Garden

Chilly mornings, rich autumn colour John's Garden

Leaves of Liquidambar have carpeted the ground and decorated the cloud pruned holly in a spectacular fashion. Autumn loveliness continues... John's Garden We are open this Saturday as usual with all proceeds from admission going to charity.

Acer platanoides 'Crimson King' has passed the rich blackberry stage, turning bright orange. Also- Aster 'Wunder Von Stäfa'. Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii. Dahlia 'Hadrian's Summer Wine'. Pennisetum 'Hamein'. John's Garden at Ashwood John's Garden is open every Saturday.

Focus shifts to texture in John's Garden at Ashwood. Flamboyant colour fades and structural beauty emerges. Dahlias of course hang on a little longer.
