I know setting up the Housing Australia Future Fund is just a start but we need the government to make a better start than this when we are talking about one of the biggest crisis facing our communities.

Let us just say it for what it is: CCS is a scam. It's been used by the coal and gas industries to delay real climate action. Greg Jericho #auspol For more info: australiainstitute.org.au/post/the-con-o…

Despite claims the Closing Loopholes Bill will harm investment, the mining industry only invested about 14% of its income back into the industry - the lowest level since at least 2001. They are banking four times more in profit than they are reinvesting back into the country.

At some point, Australia will stop digging up coal and iron ore. We'll stop drilling oil and gas. And we'll have nothing to show for it, other than a memory of lower taxes before they were raised to offset falling revenue. We need a sovereign wealth fund. Now #auspol #ausbiz

In Norway they tax the fossil fuel industry and kids go to university for free. In Australia we subsidise the fossil fuel industry and charge our kids to go to university. We raise more from HECS than petroleum resources rent tax. Richard Denniss #auspol #NPC

"Australia is a low-tax country. If we were to collect the avg amount of tax collected by OECD countries, then we would have an extra $100 bn/yr!" "No wonder our schools, hospitals, aged care, public transport lag so far behind northern Europe." @RDNS_TAI at #NPC today #auspol

Yes, the government collects more money from HECS than it does from the petroleum resource rent tax. We should tax things we want less of & subsidise things we want more of not the other way round Greg Jericho Jack Thrower #OffTheCharts australiainstitute.org.au/post/yes-the-g…

One statistic that blows my mind: Together, the US and Canada pump today a **quarter** of the world's oil. One-in-four barrels; 25%!!! (Think about the magnitude of that market share, and now think about the climate policies — and politics — of Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden)

Talk of WA facing a 'gas shortage' is nonsense. Here's the facts: ➡️ 90% of WA's gas is exported ➡️ WA exports 35x more gas than is used for electricity generation ➡️ WA gas industry is 80% foreign-owned ➡️ They get 70% of the gas for free, paying no royalties Thread ⤵️ #auspol

‘How come we can afford $36 billion a year for new roads but can't spend the same amount on renewables?’ Governments don't want to get asked simple questions like that. They'd rather you think the Budget is boring. Executive Director Richard Denniss explains. @RDNS_TAI #auspol

The devastation on its way is unimaginable - like nothing humanity has ever witnessed before - and everyone will wish they had been climate activists and ‘hysterics’ when they had the chance. We are in a moment of unprecedented stupidity.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz says the fact Australia gives away its natural resources is "mind-boggling". "If you made them pay for the value of the resources & their fair share of taxes, you wouldn't have the problems you have today." #auspol August on #QandA

Other countries tax their oil & gas industries. Australia subsidies ours. While gas prices boomed in 2022, LNG companies made windfall gains of up to $40 bn. PRRT take increased by less than $1 billion. It's time to fix the tax loopholes that Big Gas exploits. #auspol
