The role is small or modest. The US would have HIGH child poverty even if there was ZERO single motherhood.

BUT I would warn STRONGLY against an interpretation of our findings that suggest that MARRIAGE promotes men's stable employment.

INSTEAD, it would be MUCH more reasonable to suspect good EMPLOYMENT encourages BOTH steady future work and marriage.
