NEW: I talked w/ Mary Ziegler about how Trump could use the Comstock Act to ban abortion nationwide, Dems' strategies to fight it & what else it could ban if enforced (hint: a lot).

'Comstock is unambiguously about more than abortion.' For Mother Jones:

My Bluey-obsessed 6-year-old spotted a Bluey cookbook at Kismet Books and begged me to get it and make pavlova. US stores don't sell 'pavlova base' (a giant meringue), so we had to make our own, and it wasn't a total flop (though I should've let it firm up a bit more).

This thread is absolutely fascinating. MANY of the suburban catholics I know and grew up with would be STUNNED to hear they aren't included.

Fun fact: in certain parts of US Protestantism, Catholics are in fact not considered Christian. Not surprised Fox News leans that way. (If you google “Catholics not Christian,” there goes your Sunday. It’s wild.)

Decades!
I wrote a paper about this in grad school.
I'm happy that this has finally changed. I am also overwhelmed with grief at the pain my people are continually forced to bear. And the amount of advocacy needed to change racist policies that kill us.

I hope this kind of fear mongering will prompt my fellow Wisconsinites to vote Democrat this November. But I also worry that his rhetoric might be sticky enough to attract as many as it appalls.

'This company doesn't give a f* about us, which is why we shouldn't give a f* about them. If we died, they would just replace us. They wouldn't even care.' -- an airport worker (and budding revolutionary) talking to another worker on break

I'm thrilled to be back at Sociology at Penn and to have a chance to share a bit about Holding It Together and catch up with so many of my grad school mentors and new colleagues and friends.

TLDR: A new study identifies and measures which large U.S. companies engage in hiring discrimination against Black people.

They name names and find that some of the most discriminatory companies include CVS, Gap, Best Buy, Autozone, and Costco. 🤯
