#Kirk has rapidly intensified and is now a major #hurricane w/ winds of 120 mph. It's the farthest east in the tropical Atlantic that a storm has reached major hurricane strength this late in the calendar year on record. Kirk reached major at ~44°W. Prior record was 49°W (1893).
