One of the coolest evolutionary adaptations I've seen is the "herbivory mimicry" seen in the leaves of Babiana cuneata (Iridaceae) seen here. This geophyte from South Africa avoids being gnawed on by producing truncate leaves that look like they've already been gnawed on.

Hi Manhattan Bird Alert ! I'm going to be in Manhattan for several days around Thanksgiving and would love to go on some bird walks in Central Park. Can you recommend some groups that lead walks there? Thanks!

Bad Air Canada changed the layover in Vancouver for my LAX -> Winnipeg flight from 2 hours to 17 hours. Boo! Good Air Canada When I called them to cancel the flight a nice rep said they'd be happy to issue a refund, even though it was a no refund ticket. Yay!

a great thing about birding is that you can center your day around driving out to some scenic hotspot, discover it’s closed for the holidays, and then stop at a roadside casino sewage pond on the way home and see more species in two minutes than you would have originally

Schuyler I have been saying for years, when AI achieves runaway sentience it's not gonna be in a lab, it's gonna originate in the CSS file of a local bank in Oklahoma

Hey Biggest Week , I was an attendee this year, and leaders on the van trip I was on said there’d be a central link to the eBird checklists for all the field trips. Can you point me to it?

Hey eBird , are there any plans to reopen the eBird Store? It's been closed seemingly forever, and I'm running dangerously low on eBird swag. HELP!

Astonishingly, I just saw a Wood Warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix) in a cemetery in Long Beach. Already about 70 other birders there looking at it, and no doubt many more on the way. It's the first time this European species has been seen in the lower 48.
