Of the many unique aspects of this recovery, the rebound in labor force participation stands out.

Both because it was unanticipated by many (remember the Great Resignation?) and because it is driving labor force normalization and increasing soft landing prospects.

The theory of the soft landing: wages would come down to be more in line with lower inflation, but inflation would fall more, increasing real wages.

Remarkably this happened in 2023, especially in the last 3 months. /1

Great CPI figures for the Fed:

- 3% headline inflation, literally 1/3 of last summer
- 4.8% core, beating expectations for slowdown
- cooling supercore
- slowest monthly core increase since August 2021
