The world’s leading economies were built by first ensuring that their agricultural base was sound and protected to avoid massive migration from farms to cities. Rural job creation is just as important as manufacturing growth. Government needs to understand this. MT FairPlay

It's official: SA is among the 6 most efficient chicken producing countries in the world. When we ask for import duties it's about fair trade, not protectionism. m.fin24.com/Companies/Agri…

Predatory importers say tariffs to stop chicken dumping will increase the price of chicken. This claim has been rejected by agri economists. These importers are lining their pockets at the expense of the local industry. Read the full story on Business Day : bit.ly/2Vg7ELd

SANCU's analysis is outrageous. The profit margin on Brazilian chicken imports is massive. Importers of Brazil chicken easily absorbs Chinese tariffs and can do so in South Africa and still make huge profits. Thousands of rural jobs in South Africa rely on chicken production

The surest way to undermine a nation's food security is to open the door to the dumping of food products from countries like Brazil that reduce their food production costs by abusing workers and yet rely on state support for their agricultural industries MT FairPlay

Christopher Ward Shocked by SANCU's argument dressed as "interests of conumers" presumably on price and food safety. Margins, from dumped 2 retail prices, aren't passed to consumers but "looted" by both importers (meat brokers) n retailers. Countries blocking Brazilian chicken on safety grounds!

Good for Ellen Degeneres The Ellen Show George Bush’s greatest legacy is the millions of lives saved by PEPFAR. His program to get medicines to HIV/AIDS patients all over the world. Conveniently forgotten and ignored by his critics.

Even the #EU agrees that its food system is unsustainable. By overproducing, and then dumping the excess, the #EU not only destroys livelihoods in Africa, but also destroys contributes to environmental degradation. bit.ly/3g1eV8q

This acknowledgement of EU inefficiency in food systems and its global impact is refreshing. Yes to all the measures proposed: now also consider how EU overproduction of chicken and dumping of the unwanted spare parts on Africa destroys local industries, and stop it! FairPlay

Nhlanhla Dhlamini🏴‍☠️🇿🇦 FairPlay Cyril Ramaphosa 🇿🇦 The Presidency 🇿🇦 If there's one mistake our country should avoid doing is to allow history (of the decimation of clothing/textile industry) to repeat itself in the form of decimation of the poultry sector through chicken dumping from China or from anywhere (EU, Brazil and US included).
