The #EuroRoad23 championships give us the opportunity to introduce the geologically most puzzling mountain of Europe: the Col Du VAM Drenthe! The Dutch province of Drenthe is world-famous for Pleistocene ice-age geology. It is scattered with large ice age erratics: enormous blocks

Yesterday we planted 4x Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria araucana) trees as part of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Safe Site Conifer Conservation Programme. Our nearly mature one was planted in memory of my Dad - I hope these thrive as his one has.

On Trafalgar Day whilst the immortal memory of Nelson is rightly in focus, there are stories during the battle that are less told or known. One of these is of Sir Henry Digby who was in command of HMS Africa during the battle.

From about 1943, German guards, fearing that the war would be lost and that the inflation of the 1920’s would return, were happy to trade contraband for Lagermarks. Everything from eggs to wire cutters had a price. (Cigarettes were another form of currency)

The 3rd biography of Pamela Harriman. None have spelt her father’s name Kennie, as he did. And Sonia Purnell has revived Ogden’s mistake of adding a ‘c’ to her sister Jaquetta’s name. I understand, of course, that I’m just an old pedant, and that this is completely insignificant
