Given debates about photo ID for elections, interesting that in Feb 22 UK gov't rejected calls for verified ID for social media accounts because of Electoral Commission research suggesting that 3.5 million people did not have access to a valid photo ID petition.parliament.uk/petitions/5758…

Labour source: 'It is absolutely incredible that Ric Holden and James Daly have been pressuring the police over Angela while sitting on this Mark Menzies case in CCHQ for three and a half months without thinking to report it.'

Re smoking bans. Look to prohibition of alcohol, it worked…for the mobsters and the criminals who profited.

Create a ban and you create a shadow economy.

Purely on practical terms, this is poor public policy.

Will regret this, but: is it so strange that the prime minister of a major economy should have a large competent personal stuff including round-the-clock medical support? Why does the UK commentariat have such low, amateurish expectations of their state?

I'm not sure this police investigation into whether Angela Rayner broke electoral law will get very far. When we found on C4 News in Stoke by-election that Ukip leader was registered at address he'd told me he'd never yet visited, Staffs police investigated & dropped the case.

In my dissertation, I argued that green and radical right parties have different effects on party competition because environment/climate is a valence issue while immigration is positional. Today, rather the reverse has become true. A crucial transformation. A🧵

Streeting’s euphoric, over speedy response supporting the Cass review and promising implementation smacks of clinging to a way out of what is a challenging issue politically. I’m a fan of Wes (on the whole). Haven’t read the whole report yet - but 25 arbitrary age looks shaky.

I had a blast recording this, even if it’s not the easiest conversation sometimes. The women who tell their stories are absolute superstars, as is Mim. I’d really like to never have to have this discussion ever again.

🆕What happened to all the APPGs? 👀

Yesterday the new register of All Party Parliamentary Groups was published, and 278 of the 722 groups were removed - a 39% reduction.

🧵What was behind the change, which groups were removed, and where did they go?

We interpret this as evidence of an ‘allocative effect’, whereby it is not the experience of university study itself, but the opportunities typically afforded to graduates by virtue of doing so that drive them to develop less Eurosceptic attitudes, relative to non-graduates.

An analogy - Imagine polling Northern Ireland in the 1980s and asking respondents 'Of the following two entities, which do you feel more sympathy towards?' with 'Britain' and 'the IRA' as the response categories.

This would be a meaningful Q, involving the two antagonists in a

Feel very sorry for William Wragg. He was a victim of crime. And he is standing down in a few months anyway. But delivering other potential victims to a blackmailer has to be a resignation offence for a legislator.
