Where does the capacity for creative thought come from?

Maybe from foraging. Or rather, from having *ancestors* who foraged.

Having people 'forage' through physical spaces primes them for creative thought—in a sense, for foraging through ideas.

When people mimic us, we behave more prosocially not just toward the people who mimic us, but toward *totally unrelated* people as well.

28 years ago, I dropped out of high school in small town Canada. After much meandering, 16 years ago I got a BA in psychology & philosophy, moved to NYC to do research, and decided to try this grad school thing. 9 years ago I got a PhD from Yale... and today I got tenure at…

Unbelievable that Supreme Court justices who see forgiving student loans, mandating vaccines, and regulating climate change as a slippery slope toward tyranny were not clear-eyed on questions of whether a president could execute citizens or stage a coup without being prosecuted.

We can't tell you how much of an honor it is to get to be colleagues with Shimul Melwani!

Under her leadership, the Undergraduate Business Program at UNC Kenan-Flagler has expanded in so much! It's even become one of Poets and Quants top programs to watch. 👀👏

Where do fears of being single come from? To date, studies have focused individual insecurities. Our new paper (led by B.Dennett) provides novel evidence that societal beliefs that place romantic relationships on a pedestal play a role! 1/4 SFU Psychology

People who watch *the exact same* video of a protest often come to radically different conclusions.

People's views of protestors and the police depend on the congruence of the protestors’ positions with the subjects’ own worldview jstor.org/stable/41511108

We have a bias to assume that people who disagree with us are 'bad at listening'—even they are, in fact, pretty *good* at listening.

I found this to be pretty shocking.

I failed to replicate a famous finding from 20 years ago, and the paper's editor reprimanded me for even *raising the possibility* that the original authors might have (unknowingly) reported a Type I error.

If you want to keep up with the four criminal indictments of Donald Trump but don't know where to start, I recommend checking out this podcast!

It's a great resource for expert opinion on what's happening in these cases. And the hosts are fantastic.

With another semester ending, here's your annual reminder that teaching evaluations systemically disadvantage women. Even when controlling for grades and other factors, students (esp. males) consistently give female professors lower scores. This can have serious ramifications.🧵

When researchers sent 80,000 fake résumés to jobs they found:

-racial discrimination: employers gave 10% more call backs to White vs. Black applications
-no gender discrimination
-no LGBT discrimination

One thing predicted less discrimination: a centralized HR operation.…

Evidence of a too-good-to-be-true bias.

When people are 'too generous,' we come to infer that there are phantom costs. In turn, we become less likely to accept high job wages, cheap plane fares, and even free money.
