Sticking with a bad decision is not a triumph of commitment. It's a failure of courage. The quicker you are to admit you were wrong, the sooner you can start making it right. Persistence is not about staying on a path. It's about finding a better path to your goal.

The best antidote to burnout is not teaching people coping skills to handle stress. It's redesigning work to reduce stress. The cure for exhaustion is removing overwhelming demands and the norm of self-sacrifice. Healthy workplaces value well-being as much as performance.

Need genomic, serological surveillance strategy to: (i) incorporate samples from mammals, birds and people, including milk & wastewater; (ii) ID source of outbreak; and (iii) monitor spread, trajectory, and evolution of the virus, and its pandemic potential. #H5N1

Screaming at employees doesn't make you a tough boss. It makes you an asshole. Great leaders are demanding, not demeaning. They set high expectations and create accountability without abuse. Yelling is unprofessional. Treating people with dignity is not optional—it's required.

In the light of H5N1 and H5N2, now would be a good time for people to be asking countries what their updated pandemic flu plan is (i.e. with the benefit of everything we’ve learnt during COVID). Need to move beyond vague platitudes, and pin down actual tools and approaches…

The highest purpose of debate is not to persuade. It's to teach and learn. In productive disagreements, both people gain knowledge on the topic, wisdom on the process, and understanding of each other. A successful argument sharpens our skills in both reasoning and listening.

Bosses who get results shouldn't earn a license to be cruel. Berating and belittling aren’t signs of tough love—they’re hallmarks of abusive supervision. Treating people like dirt doesn't motivate them—it undermines them. If you can't model respect, you don't deserve to lead.

Stop glorifying the person who keeps going and going. Even when they’re sick, stressed, or going through grief. True strength is in the ability to take a step back so your body can repair and your emotions can process.

Refusing to quit is not always heroic resilience. It’s often stubborn rigidity. Walking away from a losing battle is not a failure of grit. It's a triumph of wisdom. Service is not only about stepping up to lead. It’s also about having the courage to step aside.

Bad bosses insist that work comes first. They reward workaholism and punish outside interests. Good bosses support balance. They encourage nights & weekends off. Great bosses expect people to put loved ones above their jobs. They forbid missing important family events for work.

In this horrible moment, encouraged to hear President Trump’s team indicate that the former president is doing well. An entire nation must speak with one voice today to completely and unequivocally reject all political violence.

Barack Obama (@barackobama) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.

What stops us from speaking truth to power is not a desire for harmony. It’s a climate of fear and futility. When leaders fail to make it safe and worthwhile to be honest, we bite our tongues. Weak leaders stifle dissent and leave themselves weaker. Strong leaders welcome

Meetings shouldn’t always be run by the leader. They should be guided by the best facilitator. Too many bosses silence the room. Skilled facilitators amplify dissenting views and quiet voices. A key to curbing groupthink is preventing powerful people from dominating

What leads us to ignore experts isn't their knowledge. It's their arrogance. Evidence: Scientists are more credible when they admit what they don't know, acknowledge what they got wrong, and update their views. Trust is earned by expressing humility, not by asserting authority.
