Could it be, the reason so many mainstream autism resources focus on children is because it is easier to speak over autistic children than autistic adults?

Being disabled shouldn’t be a poverty sentence. When I say the system needs to be uprooted and rebuilt molecule by molecule, I mean it. Disabled people deserve to thrive. Deserve security and stability. Deserve accommodations. Deserve a satisfying life.

If you’re upset with an autistic person and want them to apologise to you, you’ll have more success if you tell them why you’re upset instead of acting passive aggressively or saying “you know what you did”. We often see things differently and might not intuit how you’re feeling.

It’s a neurotypical custom to overstate one’s emotions. Mild fear is described as terror, slight discomfort as agony, intrigue as fascination, and cheerfulness as joy. However, it’s an autistic custom to describe emotions as they are, with no exaggerations.

One thing I’ve learned while interviewing autistic adults is the reason why some autistic kids grow up to seem “less autistic” is bc as adults they have more autonomy over their environment & modify it to be more accommodating. This leads to better regulation. 🧵

What doesn’t kill you can: •dysregulate your nervous system •trap itself in your body •steal your sense of self •make you wish it did I don’t know what “makes you stronger” means but let’s stop glorifying trauma as a life-lesson we’ve been blessed with.

I didn't know how badly I needed to read this. I still blame myself for the consequences of decisions I made when I was pressured or gaslit. I blame myself for being influenced in the first place, rather than celebrating my change as me reclaiming agency.

NPD and OCD get thrown around so much. Not every shitty guy is a narcissist (NPD derives from extreme trauma from shame and humiliation). OCD is an anxiety disorder. Feeling annoyed when things aren't tidy is normal. Feeling terrified it will make something bad happen is OCD.

Got a new article in Overland Journal about the way that individual trans women are used to validate common prejudices about trans women as a whole, and the subtle types of transphobia that cissexism and transmisogyny let cis people get away with, even while pretending to be...
