A cold front is blasting across the state setting off a swath of rain. To add to the active weather, the winds are wicked & those winds are causing temperatures to plummet. We started in the 50s this morning, but now in the 40s & eventually bottoming out in the teens by Friday AM

Looks are deceiving. Central Illinois is bathed under bright sunny skies, but despite the sunshine, it's very nippy with afternoon highs stuck in the upper 20s and low 30s. Today will be the coldest day we'll have for a while as a huge warming trend is on the way for next week.

Even though the weather has been gray and gloomy, at least temperatures have been pleasantly mild. Look for a few peeks of sunshine on Friday to wrap up the week along with slightly warmer temperatures.

Temperatures are about to turn dramatically colder across central Illinois. After a string of unseasonably mild weather with highs in the 50s & 60s since last Tuesday, now the stage is set for a blast of Winter. Temperatures take a major plunge on Sunday feeling like the teens

A potent dynamic storm system is currently plowing across the region. Expect temperatures to be crashing tonight. We're in the 60s and low 70s right now, but into the teens overnight.

A powerful cold front roared through central Illinois today, not only setting off some severe storms, but also producing wicked winds. Now those winds are driving in much colder weather. We started the day in the 60s & even low 70s, but come Monday morning, it'll feel BELOW ZERO.

Some light precipitation is streaming down across parts of northern Illinois giving some of our northern communities a glancing blow. It will not be very impactful. So it should NOT be any big nuisance for holiday revelers as most of us will likely see just cloudy skies.

Your Winter coat will come in handy the next couple of days as we usher in the New Year. But come next week, you may want to trade in that heavier coat for a more light-weight jacket with afternoon highs recovering into the upper 40s and even some 50s!

Expect some great weather the next few days to get caught up on yard work like taking down holiday displays and decorations, but the weather turns more active later in the week with showers a good bet on Thursday and Friday.

Our weather will remain wet & unsettled through this evening, and there is still a chance for some bad storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed central Illinois under a Marginal Risk for severe weather, although the latest forecast model runs are not looking too impressive

The good news is that there are no watches or warnings in effect anywhere across central Illinois. Currently light rain for Springfield, but a band of heavy rain is line up just to the west in a swath from near Arenzville to Winchester. So prepare for another good soaking soon.

Central Illinois received a round of rain and a wintry mix earlier today, but now another bout of rain/snow is heading into our region. We'll see some rain switching to a mix and then snow as the day wears on. If you are traveling watch out for some slick spots & poor visibility

No precipitation just yet for Springfield, but Havana, Macomb and Peoria are all reporting light snow. So watch out for messy weather as a wintry mixture overspreads the region through the evening.

A swath of snow is stretching from Hoopeston and Clinton southwestward to Lincoln and Springfield. Expect more snow to advance to the I-57 corridor over the next couple of hours.

It's cold and it's windy! Temperatures have plummeted into the 20s and 30s with wind chills in the single numbers and mid teens. The winds have been wicked today, at times over 50 MPH, but winds will relax a little this evening with gusts down to around 25 MPH tonight.

OUCH! Our wind chills are biting cold with temperatures in the teens and low 20s and wind chills generally in the low single numbers. But Sunday will be worse with wind chills particularly in the morning running way BELOW ZERO.
