#greenroofs have the ability to bind dust and pollutants in the air. Particle matter and air pollutants are filtered out – they are bound in the substrate, decomposed and absorbed by the plants. Helping to reduce CO₂.

We need more pools in SLC, especially outdoor pools. I went to the SLC complex and it was PACKED with many user types and it's clear to me we need more access to this around the city. As it gets hotter, we are going to need more access to recreate in water to keep cool.

A reminder to everyone celebrating Steve Klauke (including media) this week: Steve did not just pass away or die last week. He was killed by the inattentive driver of a car at an intersection designed like this. Don’t make me tap the sign.

Farm workers shared this photo with us from where they're planting mango trees in Coachella CA. When the pic was taken these women share the temp was 107°, but the high that day hit 112°. They work in high temps like this from June through Sept. #WeFeedYou #CALOR

I had such a blast this week doing the Master Preserver course with USU Extension. I've also done the Master Gardening program. If I could quit my job and learn full-time from Extension I would! Amazing people to learn from.

"Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks, including sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit—hot enough to melt some metals." cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-…

One day we'll look back on fireworks and say "I can't believe we used to pollute the air, terrify our veterans and pets, cause hundreds of injuries, numerous deaths, and wildfires every year in the name of celebration when we had better options at our fingertips".

This is the second card this month I've tried to write in that is using verticle lines take up empty space. I actually want to write something, though!

María harvests strawberries in Salinas, CA. "I have to move quickly as I work piece rate. This means I'm paid for each tray I harvest. My husband also works in the strawberries. We need both of our incomes to be able to pay the rent which is very expensive here." #WeFeedYou

Gabino shared this video of the grape harvest in Bakersfield CA. In the middle of the day with temps in the 90’s, thunderstorms hit the area, making an already long hot day even more intolerable with the added humidity. #WeFeedYou

I am grateful Salt Lake City Government is proactively seeking feedback on the CIP process. There is much room to improve and to ensure CIP isn't one more lever for worsening West Side inequity through systemic under-investment.

all of this fear-mongering around women athletes and their bodies has real trickle-down impacts I wrote last month about how plenty of women athletes have decided to quit—or were told to quit—before they could even potentially get to the Olympics slate.com/life/2024/07/o…

I'm incredibly grateful Salt Lake City Government approved my CIP for Riverside Park's looping path. West-siders need and deserve safe and accessible amenities on par with Liberty/Sugar House parks.
