Ingestion of an oz of straight alcohol (no mix/chase or carbonation/caffeine) prior to a meal closes the sphincter between the stomach and duodenum. This is a similar effect to the stomach as the GLPs. Carbonated and caffeinated beverages have the opposite effect.
